Hong Kong, 3 April 2024 – PwC has announced the launch of Harvey AI in Hong Kong, an artificial intelligence (‘AI’) platform for the legal industry, with the aim of embedding generative AI technology into its core tax and legal services. Adopting this cutting-edge technology will significantly enhance the professional skills and service efficiency of PwC’s consultants, and strengthen intelligence and automation in the fields of tax and legal services. Harvey AI is a large language model (‘LLM’) fine-tuned for domain areas such as tax and legal, and powered by OpenAI’s flagship GPT foundation model. The successful adoption of Harvey AI in Hong Kong also marks a critical leap in PwC’s technological transformation and its long-standing commitment to a “human-led, tech-powered” strategy.

This initiative will enable PwC to provide a secure platform for consultants and attorneys from its tax and legal services to access and pilot generative AI technology in Hong Kong. It will enable the team to take the lead in exploring and discovering specific use cases and business scenarios for generative AI in the fields of tax, legal and other services. By integrating advanced capabilities such as natural language processing, machine learning, and big data analysis into its daily operations, Harvey AI will help PwC redefine the way it provides tax, consulting, and other professional services, significantly improving work productivity and accuracy.

Charles Lee, PwC China Tax Managing Partner, said: “PwC has always adhered to a 'human-led, tech-powered' strategy. The successful implementation of Harvey AI in Hong Kong is a significant breakthrough and a key milestone in the continuous digital innovation and exploration of our tax and legal services.”

Jenny Chong, PwC China Tax Digital Products & Solutions Leader, added: “We are extremely excited to be able to deploy advanced technologies such as Harvey AI into PwC’s tax and other service offerings in Hong Kong. As a digital leader in the industry, we are committed to creating innovative solutions that help our clients address the growing challenges in tax.”

PwC has been investing in forward-looking experiments and new technologies for many years. It has become a global opinion leader in the latest developments in AI, providing clients with comprehensive insights and analysis through its research and reports. Last year, PwC announced a five-year investment programme in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong for employee upskilling and infrastructure upgrades related to generative AI technologies. PwC has also established alliances with several domestic and global LLM providers to jointly study and develop large language models and applications tailored for professional services. PwC’s goal is to frame generative AI as a positive force for growth and empowerment, both internally and externally.
