David Brown

David Brown has been a partner in PwC since 1997, having transferred from PwC in the UK to Hong Kong in 1994. He has specialised in M&A advisory and financial due diligence, as well as corporate restructuring and debt restructuring advisory, since his arrival in the territory. David currently leads PwC’s Greater China Private Equity Group and is also the leader of PwC’s M&A Transaction Services business in China and Hong Kong and in Asia Pacific region.

David has extensive experience of advising private equity sponsors, as well as corporates, governments and financial institutions on their investments in China and Hong Kong and elsewhere in the region, not only in terms of acquisitions but also in relation to restructurings and exits. In the last several years David has focused on M&A advisory and financial due diligence work, assisting private equity, overseas and domestic companies looking to acquire and structure businesses and assets in China, Hong Kong and other Asian countries. He has advised on some of the largest and most complex transactions in China and has broad experience across many industry sectors. David leads PwC relationships and transactions work for a number of the largest global PE accounts active in China.

David is also an expert in corporate and debt restructurings having acted on several of the largest debt restructurings in China and Hong Kong including as lead advisor to 170 bank creditors on the largest China debt restructuring to date, that of the Guangdong Provincial Government’s investment company GDE. David presented at the inaugural Global PwC Restructuring Program at Harvard Business School. He was also a speaker at the London INSOL conference and has lectured on corporate restructuring methodologies and strategies in countries throughout the world.

In the M&A and Private Equity field he is frequently quoted in the international and local press including the Financial Times, WSJ, SCMP and AVCJ, and has been interviewed many times by TV and radio media including Bloomberg and CNBC. David is also a member of the advisory board to INSEAD University’s Global Private Equity Initiative.
